Beginning with her work on the Junior Board in 1962, and then as a member of the VNA Board of Directors from 1966 through 2009 (including two terms as Board Chair), Anne M. Davis set an unmatched example of service, commitment and enthusiasm that inspired all those around her.
One of Ms. Davis’s particular interests was the use of mobile health units to provide healthcare to the underserved. She was always rightfully determined that the VNA Foundation’s current work reflect its heritage and viewed healthcare providers who deliver mobile services as a modern equivalent to the original Visiting Nurse Association of Chicago nurses, who traveled by horse-drawn carriages to provide care in peoples’ homes. For this reason, VNA was proud to create the Anne M. Davis Mobile Health Award to recognize both Ms. Davis’s dedication, volunteerism and creativity, and the unique impact possible when mobile health units bring health services right to the communities where they are most needed.
The first Davis Award was presented in 2010, upon the occasion of Ms. Davis’s retirement from the board. In the ensuing years, we’ve been honored to make this award, up to once per year, to outstanding mobile health programs.
