VNA Foundation initiated the Super Star Award in In Community Nursing Award in 2002. Since then, we have awarded seven winners $25,000 each, and twenty-three runners-up and finalists awards ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.
VNA Foundation began our Nursing Scholarship program in the fall of 2005, awarding our first grants to the Accelerated Bachelor of Nursing programs at Rush and Loyola Universities.
Beginning in 2004, VNA worked in partnership with Erie Family Health Center to facilitate increased access to oral health services for medically underserved individuals and families. One year later and with collaboration from other local health foundations, the Oral Health Initiative was launched and services were piloted at Erie’s Albany Park office.
As part of our ongoing commitment to serve the underprivileged in the Chicagoland area, VNA awarded a $125,000 grant in December 2001 to the Illinois Maternal and Child Health Coalition to support the Covering Kids and Families Illinois Program, created to increase enrollment in the KidCare Initiative.
